We made Time Mag...

...well, okay so we didn't exactly. But the Advent Conspiracy did. And we are a part of the Advent Conspiracy this year. So, though we may not be mentioned by name...we're in there. Check out the article here.

It couldn't be easier...

It has struck me how remarkably significant a simple thing like switching off the radio to create some peace and quiet can be. As part of my Advent discipline I thought this would be a good thing to do, especially since I spend so much time in the car running around to different appointments. And it has had a tremendous over all affect on my ability to focus, be still...even drive! All it took was switching off the constant soundtrack to my life and I already feel more centered and present to this Advent season.

Oasis for the Soul

The Puritan writer John Bunyan (author of Pilgrim's Progress) once said "If we have not quiet in our minds, outward comfort will do no more for us than a glass slipper on a gouty foot."

As a part of our Advent observance this year we are gathering for a series of 3 Taize prayer services (one each week) to seek what it means to worship more fully and also to create a space for inner quiet where God can speak, heal, minister and equip us.

For those who are unfamiliar, Taize refers to a monastic community in France located in the town of the same name. The brothers there are known for their community prayer offices and the music that they have developed for them. They focus on simple tunes that focus the worshipper on the words. The words too are focused. Generally they use short phrases of Scripture or spiritual truths that are repeated until they move from our lips and our minds into our hearts. One of my favorite features of this service is the time of deep silence. The peaceful prayerful music and the readings prepare our hearts and then we give an extended time to silence - not a anxious, uncomfortable silence. Rather it is a full and Spirit centered silence.

I can't wait for tonight!

All are welcome to join us, 7PM tonight, Wednesday the 9th and Thursday the 16th at Beebe School where we meet for Sunday worship.
